Whip cracked

Do not pass go and do not collect $200. In fact just go and stand in that corner over there until I decide you can move. Is now a good time to mention I have cramp? Maybe not.

What I love about the French teaching style is the rather brutal way they tell you how rubbish you are, forget to mention any positives and leave the class without any further discussion. I have to say it's working tremendously well with me. It's really making me feel safe so I can throw myself off the cliff and throw myself with abandon into my performances. Ooh do we detect a hint of sarcasm? Bitterness?

Friday. Auto Cour performance. Not a single good thing to be said about it. And we worked hard. Focusing on just a few of the notes we keep getting drummed into us because when your doing something new it's hard to focus on all of it. Well it is for me. It means I think too much. How can this be a bad thing you ask? I refer you back to religion. Believe. Don't think too much. See. God even says so. So we decided to work on the six steps of dramatic tension, our rhythm and working as an ensemble. The biggest points we have been taught about neutral mask except for the BIG core but we took that as written. And what we got was some beautifully choreographed movements through the various spaces that were our 'Journey/exodus' (This weeks theme. Genius you cry) a clear mounting of obstacles and some rhythm changes. Paola et al disagrees. What we in fact got was seven people working completely independently of one another and a realist and banal story that we kept private and didn't share with the audience that was too choreographed. Nothing else was mentioned. Brilliant. A week working together on being an ensemble and we failed miserably. Back to the drawing board. So next week I'm not saying a word. Far easier to sit on the sidelines and watch than throw yourself off that cliff with abandon. But it's okay because next week we're doing a hurricane so I'll probably get blown off a cliff anyway.

I'll never buy Liverpool Street at this rate.
